How Big Will the GTA 6 Map Be: Cities and Regions of the State of Leonida

2 sep 2026 at 16:52

Rockstar has not yet revealed the exact size of the GTA 6 map, so all the figures in square kilometers circulating online remain fan estimates. But the official materials already show enough to understand one key thing: Leonida will be noticeably more diverse than the world of GTA 5.

Vice City is only one part of the state. In addition to the metropolis, GTA 6 will feature islands, swamps, small towns, industrial districts, and large natural areas. Let’s take a look at what the GTA 6 map will consist of and why its scale should be judged by more than just kilometers. Let’s go!

Vice City — the main city of GTA 6

The center of the map will remain Vice City — a modern version of the city inspired by Miami.

The trailers and official screenshots have already shown beaches, a downtown area full of skyscrapers, residential neighborhoods, nightclubs, hotels, ports, and major highway interchanges.

At the same time, Vice City does not look like one uniform metropolis. Rockstar has already shown areas like Ocean Beach and Little Cuba, so different parts of the city should feel noticeably distinct from one another.

But unlike GTA: Vice City, the city itself will be only one part of a much larger state in the new game.

Leonida Keys — islands and open sea

To the south of Vice City lie the Leonida Keys — a chain of tropical islands based on the Florida Keys.

This is where Jason lives at the beginning of the story, and the region itself is associated with boats, smuggling, small settlements, and sea routes.

This also matters when it comes to the map’s scale. In GTA 6, water seems to be more than just the edge of the world. Rockstar actively shows boats, islands, diving, and marine wildlife. That means part of exploring Leonida may happen not on roads, but on the water.

Grassrivers — swamps and alligators

Grassrivers is the game’s local take on the Florida Everglades.

It is a vast swampy region with tall grass, canals, airboats, and alligators. In terms of atmosphere, it is almost the complete opposite of Vice City.

These are exactly the kinds of regions that could make the GTA 6 map more interesting than GTA 5. In the previous game, most of the space outside Los Santos mainly served as a route between points.

In Leonida, separate natural zones look like fully realized locations with their own activities, transport, and wildlife.

Port Gellhorn — a worn-down resort town

Another major location on the GTA 6 map is Port Gellhorn.

It was once a popular tourist town, but its best days are clearly behind it. In the official materials, you can see cheap motels, old shops, small streets, and a much less glamorous side of Leonida.

It is through contrasts like these that the state can feel large even without enormous distances between locations.

Ambrosia — Leonida’s industrial backcountry

Ambrosia shows another side of the state.

This region features factories, sugarcane fields, industrial infrastructure, and small settlements. It is also tied to the local biker culture.

Leonida should feel less like a collection of tourist spots and more like a real state, where beaches, cities, and clubs exist alongside factories, highways, rural areas, and ordinary working-class districts.

Mount Kalaga — forests and true wilderness

In the north of the map lies Mount Kalaga.

This is a large natural region with forests, hills, and off-road terrain. Rockstar already connects the area with hunting, fishing, and exploring nature. Players will be able to start a trip among the neon lights and skyscrapers of Vice City, drive through small towns and industrial backcountry, and end it deep in the northern forests of Leonida.

For a single GTA game, that is quite a wide range of environments.

How much bigger will the GTA 6 map be than GTA 5?

There is no exact answer yet. Rockstar has not published the size of the GTA 6 map and has not confirmed the popular claims that Leonida will be one and a half or two times larger than the world of GTA 5. Most such comparisons are based on fan-made map reconstructions using trailers, roads, coordinates, and the placement of known landmarks. What is already confirmed, however, is that there will be at least six major regions.

So, just how huge will GTA 6 be?

Most likely, the GTA 6 map will become the largest and most diverse open world in the history of the series. But for now, its main strength does not seem to be size alone.

Rockstar is building an entire state where Vice City stands alongside islands, swamps, resort towns, industrial backcountry, and a national park. That is why the more interesting question is not how many kilometers Leonida covers, but how much Rockstar has managed to fit inside it.
